November Gathering

Posted in education, erotica / porn, events, politics, safer sex, sex work on October 17, 2012 by Pleasure Forum Australia

Our October gathering on Women Sex and Orgasm was quite possibly one of our finest yet. A packed house turned out to enjoy the banter and witty repartee of our extraordinary panelists, which made our October gathering one of the year’s highlights. If you didn’t make it, you did indeed miss out! However, rest assured the team we have lined up for you for NOVEMBER is sure to set you alight!

November Gathering: Sex Workers & The Sex Industry

(Please note this gathering is WEDNESDAY NOV 7 due to the Cup Day Holiday)

One of the most hotly debated and misunderstood industries in the world is the Sex Industry. The world’s ”oldest profession” is not just a title for those who ‘put out ‘ for a living. The Sex Industry is as diverse as its clients and its workers, and extends into the world of exotic dancers, BDSM practitioners, and even pornography. Our November Gathering brings you some of the country’s most progressive, forward thinking and intelligent sex workers to engage in a ”ho holds-barred” enlightening discussion about exactly what a sex worker does, how they feel about their work, and what they want YOU to know about what they do, how they do it and even WHY they do it! Hosted by Cyndi Darnell this event is going to be a vibrant and insightful discussion on one of the world’s most intriguing industries.

Panelists Sometimes, Christian Vega feels like the luckiest sex worker in the world. He’s been given the opportunity to explore sex work for the past fifteen years. He’s traversed various landscapes of the occupation, some dark and perilous, some whimsical and exuberant. Be they colleagues or clients or friends, he has met the most extraordinary characters, finding constant inspiration along the way. Learning and growing with each challenge, sex work has been an adventure for Christian, one that forged his sexual self, teaching him so much about what makes us all human: desire, intimacy, and control. Far from feeling like an outsider, Christian feels that sex work now connects him to others. By sharing knowledge, sex workers form a close and enriching community and he is grateful to be part of. Recognising that not everyone’s experience of sex work is as positive as his; Christian endeavours to make the world a better place for sex workers. Christian is the elected National Representative of Male Sex Workers for the Scarlet Alliance, the Australian Sex Workers Association. He is also an active member of the Vixen Collective, the only active peer based sex worker organisation in Victoria.

Nada Feleni worked as an erotic dancer, porn star, contortionist, bike messenger, crime scene cleaner, private escort, brothel worker, Tantric practitioner, shamanic journey sitter, stretching instructor, web designer, erotic model, and considers all of it as life as stage for performance art. She has shared stage with Annie Sprinkle, Carol Leigh, Dita Von Teese, and appeared in Alex Grey’s performance, “World Spirit” and modeled for erotic art of Michael Manning as her infamous alter ego, Jade-blue Eclipse. She is still passionate and devoted to art and sex work after 20 years of work in different countries. Currently, she travels with her Sanskrit books and can be found at http://www.nadacat.com or http://www.one-red-triangle.com

Angela White has been working in the sex industry for over 9 years as a performer in pornography, an erotic dancer, a webcam host and a sexual activist. Angela recently completed her Honours Thesis in Gender Studies at the University of Melbourne in which she conducted qualitative research into the experiences of female performers in the Australian pornography industry. Angela owns and runs her own production company and has won multiple awards for her work in the pornography industry. Angela has also publicly fought for the rights of sex workers through her involvement with the Australian Sex Party. You can learn more about Angela by going to her website http://www.angelaexposed.com. Her new website http://www.angelawhite.com will be launched on January 1, 2013.

Greetings Pleasure Lovers,
First of all, big thank you to sticking with us as we migrate through the new name change. Those previously on the Pleasure Salon mailing list have been automatically migrated across.
Our new web space is www.pleasureforumaustralia.wordpress.com
As always, big thanks to our wonderful sponsors, Take Care Out There, Bliss for Women, D.Vice, and Adult Match Maker for their support in making these events happen. And of course thanks to our host venue, LOOP bar!
 JULY Gathering
With all the media attention currently on Erotic literature, Pleasure Forum Australia’s July gathering appears to be right on trend. We must have somehow intuitively managed to make this all happen just at the right time, despite locking this even in with local erotica publisher Little Raven, back in March!
PFA is proud to be presenting a show case of some of Australia’s finest erotica authors as Part of our JULY gathering on Tuesday July 3rd at 7.30 pm.

Artists whose work will be featured on the night are:
Urszula Dawkins has performed and published her erotic fiction over many years, in Australia, the UK and the USA. She is near completion of a limited-edition artists’ book containing lyrical tales of urban queer desire and a series of abstracted cityscapes, in collaboration with revered book artist Peter Lyssiotis.
Thomas Caldwell is a writer, broadcaster and public speaker who specialises in film criticism and educational writing on film. By day Thomas is the Shorts and Next Gen Co-ordinator at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Thomas is working on his debut novel and the occasional piece of misguided erotic fiction.
Dosh Luckwell is a spoken word/performance artist with a penchant for wearing balloon cock dresses and lathering himself in milk. His debut album Sex Poems, is a marriage of erotic spoken word with dirty electro-disco-surf-rock. Dosh won him the title of Best Emerging Artist at the 2012 Fringe World Awards.

Cherry Harwood spends her daytime working at a temporary desk in an office in the city, freelancing her writing at home or looking for other ways to make money. At night, she sleeps very little while she fantasises about making fact become fiction or how to turn fiction into fact.
Mardi O’Connor is a New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based writer and editor. Her (non-erotic) writing has featured in publications including Meanjin, Kill Your Darlings and Arena. Mardi believes erotica should contain the following elements: literary stylings, black humour and feminist gusto.
Randall Stephens combines humorous, direct and personal writing on travel, romance and masculine identity with an energetic delivery style to create a strong stage presence. The creator, organiser and MC of Sweetalkers, a monthly event for high-quality spoken-word performance, Randall also blogs new poetry at Tales Told by an Idiot.
Jack Voltaire is a Cayman Island-born author of erotica, who now resides in San Francisco. Jack identifies as an empathic, sensual, sexual sadist; a sexual adventurer who uses his experiences to inspire his work. Jack is currently working on his first full semi-fictional erotic novel.
When: Tuesday JULY 3rd
Where: LOOP Bar 23 Meyers Place. Melbourne CBD
Time: Readings start at 7.30
Cost $10
