October Gathering: Sex, Love and Relating in an Intercultural World

Posted in culture, education, entertainment, events, health, politics, queer, relationships, straight on September 24, 2013 by Pleasure Forum Australia

We all have identities, some chosen, some implied, some assumed and some explicit. Each of these may (or may not) form part of who we are and how we interact with the world. How do we experience sex and dating, eroticism and relationship when we  have identities or cultural influences that buck against the norm? Or how do we manage when our multiple cultural influences are at logger heads just within ourselves?

The October Panel on Sex, Love and Relating will aim to shed light on what  this is like for them and how dialogue, self inquiry and red hot rushes have led them through uncharted waters and onto new ground. Hosted by Cyndi Darnell , please join us on Tuesday October 8th for what promises to  be an insightful, poignant and possibly hilarious discussion of the nature of cross cultural intimacy and sex in contemporary Australia.

He lived in Mexico for about 15 years of his life and in the US for about 3, which makes for a rather interesting and sometimes unintelligible accent. He is currently in a long-distance non-monogamous relationship after deciding gay marriage was too overrated. He is also one of the founders of MD Queer, the only med student group for the promotion of LGBTI health in Australia and is currently working on a national policy on LGBTI health for the Australian Medical Students Association. If you’d like to have a say in either of those, come say hi after PFA or email at asiel.adan@hotmail.com

Born in Pakistan, Rubina has lived 26 years of her life as a second-class citizen. Rebellious by nature, she was called a slut, crazy and many other names you can think of. In 2000, she broke away from that culture where sexuality is suppressed and expression of affection is limited to a bedroom only. A mechanical engineer with an MBA, she has held many regional positions over the years and is now working as an IT consultant. She has lived in Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne and has created a new life by reinventing herself. She is proud to call her a free sexual woman.

October Gathering: Women Sex & Orgasm

Posted in education, events, health, kink / BDSM, Orgasm, politics, queer, relationships, straight, trans, women on September 20, 2012 by Pleasure Forum Australia

Steeped in mystery? Not enough consideration? Just plain frigid?  Slutty? ………………..or………………………..

Women’s sexuality is a hot bed of debate and opinion. Orgasms, squirting, menstruation, multiple partners, fluidity, fisting  and beyond, these four panelists who make up the team for Pleasure Forum Australia’s Women Sex and Orgasm will inspire, educate and possibly divide! Hosted by Cyndi Darnell, this event is going to be a no holds bared exploration of women’s sexuality; real &  raw.

This is a PFA event for all women and those who love them!

Panelists

Mista Samsam is a woman fond of sex and orgasms. A kinky queer fond of all kinds of sex, sometimes with no orgasm. A nerdy genderqueer warrior fond of sex with all their clothes on. An amateur BDSM player fond of mind games and power exchanges. A tart. Aloof. Shy. A sassy introvert fond of curvy femmes and angular bois. A lesbian passionate about people’s right to make informed decisions about their own sex lives without legislative or religious interference.

Clementine Ford is a writer and loudmouthed feminist living in Melbourne. She discovered masturbation early on and, consistent with her severe hypochondria, thought the resulting orgasm was the first signs of a stroke. She is a strong believer in people being able to take care of their own sexual needs. She occasionally tumbles at www.clementineford.com.au and tweets incessantly from @clementine_ford.

In 1996 Maureen Matthews decided to open a bookshop and ‘sex shop’ for women, and their partners. Bliss for Women operated until Jan 2010, but then closed (after the GFC). However, the online business, bliss4women.com, continues to offer the same services. She has done a lot of public speaking on the subject of women’s sexuality. She’s taught at the Royal Women’s Hospital at both their ‘Menopause” and ‘Living With Cancer’ courses. She also works with Jean Hailes for Women’s Health. 6 years ago she started writing her popular weekly column – ‘About Last Night’ in the Sunday Age. She answer questions about sex and relationships. Her focus has always been on empowering women and couples to enjoy their sex lives, regardless of their age, background, orientation, faith, race or cultural background. She tries to approach everyone’s situation in a non-judgemental way, combining compassion and humour with respect and honesty.

Pornographer, sexy-feminist-rant blogger and an obsessive documenter, in words, art, porn and self portraiture (more often than not, nude) Hyperballad otherwise known as Jane, has operated in circles of totally amazing, switched-on women, both personally and professionally for a great many years now. She is also a woman herself. Over 4 years working at Feck, the past several of which devoted to the Beautiful Agony project, she has shot hundreds and hundreds of regular everyday people having an orgasm, from the shoulders up and in turn interviewed them about their sexual and masturbatory experiences. This space sparked a personal interest and engagement in sex positivity, feminism, shameless self pleasure and purposeful self love.

September Gathering

Posted in education, events, health, kink / BDSM, men, politics, queer, relationships, straight on August 23, 2012 by Pleasure Forum Australia

For the Love of Men

Depictions of men in mainstream sex and sexuality are often brutish and cavalier. Rock hard bodies and rock hard cocks are favoured over insightful conversation about lesser known inner workings of thought, feeling and beyond. Alternative depictions of ‘conscious’ men have taken over from the image of the SNAG of the 1990s, but what is there between the rougish footballer and the yoga-loving tantra dude? Is masculinity accurately represented in the eyes of men? While the images that complement the gender referred to as men may be accurate in some ways, the picture is nowhere near diverse nor complex enough to include men of varied orientations, identities or persuasions. We often hear about how men are supposed to behave or should behave rather than how they examine and experience their own behaviour. How do men feel about processing their inner workings, particularly when it comes to sex? Can we reconcile being rock hard with being soft, do we even have to and what’s the pay off if we do…………… or don’t?

The September gathering of Pleasure Forum Australia looks at men and how men see themselves as part of a sexual culture and the sex positive movement within Australia. Straight, gay and kinky the men who have agreed to be part of the September Forum have been busily working on their collaborations to bring you what will be an insightful , poignant and humourous look at the role and function of Australian men in modern Australian society, through the filter of SEX!

Panelists

Roger  Barnett is a passionate advocate of equality for men as well as for women. A facilitator of groups by trade (including conflict work around gender), he also writes about equality and is a long-time student of psychology and sexuality (including bdsm, tantra, and creative relationships).  His twenty years of training and experience has given him some radical and compelling perspectives on how we might achieve equality.

Dr Christopher Fox is a Sex and Relationship Therapist.  He also works as a Senior Lecturer in sexual health counselling in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney.  Christopher’s PhD explored the relationship between perceived body image and penis size.  Christopher’s interests are in gender, sexuality, and men’s health.  Christopher previously lectured in health promotion at La Trobe University.

Hebari has practised rope bondage over the past 16 years with particular focus on Japanese style bondage over the past three years. In 2011 Hebari established the Peer Rope Australia association which runs Peer Rope workshops monthly, giving everyone the chance to access affordable rope education regardless of background, gender, sexuality or kink.

February Pleasure Salon Melbourne celebrates sex-positive erotic films, feminism and pornography

February PSM will be trialling a new PANEL format where our guests will be able to engage in dialogue with Cyndi and the audience to explore and detail their experiences as performers and producers of pornographic adult movies.

Our Feb line up includes the gorgeous and articulate Gala  known for her pioneering work with FECK,  stunning feminist pornster Liandra Dahl  an independent feminist pornographer and blogger who has recently worked with one of the world’s most well known sex educators ( Betty) Dodson and Ross,  alongside award winning  Australian production company, Adult Voyeur’s very own  Bourke Wills.

Gala

Gala is a mutli-purpose sex-positive sex worker who entered the industry through the pornhole.  Her career in alternative smutmaking started at a Melbourne-based company Feck ( one of Pleasure Salon Melbourne’s sponsors),  and her work appears on its sites  ishotmyself.com, beautifulagony.com, ifeelmyself.com, and sonicerotica.com.  more recently she has appeared on liandradahl.com, and she is currently preparing to launch a blog journalling her experiences in various facets of the industry.’

Liandra Dahl

Liandra has worked in the alternative pornography industry for 9 years. She first began work with the Australian adult websites run by Feck, ishotmyself.com  and beautifulagony.com as a contributor and then as the hostess of their masturbation site ifeelmyself.com between 2003 to 2007. She has also worked with acclaimed European female adult film producers Erika Lust and Jennifer Lyon Bell as a performer. She currently runs her own pansexual independent reality sex site LiandraDahl.com where she performs, produces, films, edits and codes for the whole project and website.

Bourke Wills

Bourke Wills started making high quality, uniquely Australian porn a long time ago as Adult Voyuer. Our first trial shoot was August 2008 and was either a dismal failure or incredibly steep learning curve, depending on which way you look at these things.

We continued shooting,  and learning until we felt we had a sufficient backlog of material. We launched the first version of our site in 2010 to a very good reception and relaunched in in 2011 the same year we  won the Eros Shine Award for the “Best Australian Adult Website”.

Adult Voyeur continues to grow  largely due to the fascination the rest of the world has with Australia and Australian’s eager to see Australian content. We are Australia’s only high production value, top shelf,  adult film company and are dedicated to showcasing beautiful Australians having great sex in gorgeous Australian locations. We feel Australian porn as a whole is unique, it is women and couple friendly, empowering,  sex positive porn.

In other news……………………………

Starting in March,  we will be meeting the FIRST TUESDAY of each month which means our March Salon will be on TUESDAY March 6th, and we will be continuing with TUESDAY gatherings for the rest of 2012 unless we have a special event.

We understand that may mean some of you won’t be able to attend, whilst for others it means a break from the weekend crazies and a day to recover before heading out again. Running such an event we try our best to keep everyone happy, but in the end decisions have to be made, and we hope this change causes as little disappointment and inconvenience as possible

LOOP bar have offered us the residency for the duration of 2012 and we look forward to sampling their fabulous food and drink selection and taking advantage of the fabulous tech set up in addition to the warm embrace of Pleasure Salon Melbourne’s values of open and honest discussion around the importance of pleasure and good sex.

We look forward to seeing you all again.
