Pleasure Forum Australia’s proud association with Melbourne publishers Little Raven brings you July’s gathering showcasing some of Australia’s best Erotica authors in a night of passion, intensity and absolute hilarity. Erotica has never been hotter, sexier or more hilarious! Hosted by Cyndi Darnell, this event will provide the antidote to your midwinter blues and inspire you to reach for a hot toddy or even a hot Teddy!

 Contributing Writers / Speakers

Little Raven publishers is a publisher of erotic fiction, established in 2011. In November last year Little Raven released the anthology of erotic fiction and host regular events and writing workshops.
  • Van Roberts, director of Little Raven publishing will be head-lining this event and available for discussion about submissions to future anthologies. We’ll find out what Van’s inspirations are and what Little Raven’s history is along with future directions for Little Raven’s vision.
  • KL Joy has been around the traps, in the traps and over the traps of BDSM for a number of years now. Having watched from the sidelines (an avid voyeur) and been a participant on both sides of the crop (and Switch!) she learned her stuff first hand and was never afraid to ‘go there’ in the name of research. Her first book Catalyst: Stories of Awakening was self published in 2009 but 2012 was the year it took off with a bang! Now published under US publisher Storm Moon Press, she has just released her second novel Desire: Stories of Secret Longing.
  • Dosh Luckwell is a sex poet and theatre maker. Over the past couple of years Dosh has created a spoken/word music album (Sex Poems), a debut one-man show (Mr Femme Fatale), a poetry/art installation (Sex Poetry Booth) and an outrageous theatre show set in a shop window (Iron Man). Dosh was awarded the title of WA Best Emerging Artist at the 2012 Fringe World awards for Mr Femme Fatale. Dosh has also received, to date, the Best Live Art award at the 2012 Melbourne Fringe for his ability to relentlessly outpour on the spot ‘sex poetry’ at the Sex Poetry Booth. As a whole, Dosh’s practice actively connects poetry and erotica with music, theatre and installation.
  • Aimee Nichols is an erotica writer and co-founder of Va Va Boombah, Melbourne’s first plus-sized burlesque revue. Her work has appeared in anthologies including The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica Volume 6First Timers: True Stories of Lesbian AwakeningSixteen of the BestGot a Minute? April Gathering: Gender? Where?

Posted in burlesque, education, events, gender, health, men, politics, queer, relationships, trans, women on March 20, 2013 by Pleasure Forum Australia

Our March gathering on Polyamory was indeed our biggest to date! For those who ventured out in the heat to hear the tales of wonder and then some, we salute you!
April coincides with our 3rd birthday at PFA, (counting from the night we officially started to launch with speakers. )PFA has grown over the 3 years into the event you know and love today that aims to fill the gap where conventional sex education just doesn’t go.
Completely unfunded, PFA survives on your door contributions and the generosity of the panelists, so we value your attendance each month and your support for the variety of topics we bring you.
Please note that our APRIL gathering is the first Tuesday of the month ( April 2, immediately after Easter) as Loop Bar is fully booked throughout the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

All funds raised from the APRIL gathering will go towards Kate Bornstein’s cancer treatment fund . Read her response in the Huffington Post article.

GENDER? WHERE?

Are you a man? or Are you a woman? or Are you someone inbetween? What does it mean to be a man or a woman and how will you know when you get there? Gender and even sex extend beyond genitals, but many of us get tripped up when what we see and what we’ve been taught about gender don’t necessarily play out as we expect!
For more and more people the prescribed versions of masculinity and femininity no longer fit, but we are left wondering what models are available to replace them. Can you be of one gender and attracted to the same but not label yourself accordingly? This night at PFA explores what gender is and can be from a pleasure and relationship perspective. Exploring cultural and social implications surrounding gender and the experiences of those who identify and trans, gender queer or just enjoy playing with gender stereo types ( and we’ll define and explore the difference), we’ll discuss how gender affects sex and sexuality and how your own concept of gender can be (re)defined.
Hosted by Cyndi Darnell this event will highlight and explore what gender can look like and why so many more people are questioning what gender even means.

Women’s sexuality is a hot bed of debate and opinion. Orgasms, squirting, menstruation, multiple partners, fluidity, fisting  and beyond, these four panelists who make up the team for Pleasure Forum Australia’s Women Sex and Orgasm will inspire, educate and possibly divide! Panelists

Mista Samsam is a woman fond of sex and orgasms. A kinky queer fond of all kinds of sex, sometimes with no orgasm. A nerdy genderqueer warrior fond of sex with all their clothes on. An amateur BDSM player fond of mind games and power exchanges. A tart. Aloof. Shy. A sassy introvert fond of curvy femmes and angular bois. A lesbian passionate about people’s right to make informed decisions about their own sex lives without legislative or religious interference.

Clementine Ford is a writer and loudmouthed feminist living in Melbourne. She discovered masturbation early on and, consistent with her severe hypochondria, thought the resulting orgasm was the first signs of a stroke. She is a strong believer in people being able to take care of their own sexual needs. She occasionally tumbles at www.clementineford.com.au and tweets incessantly from @clementine_ford.

In 1996 Maureen Matthews decided to open a bookshop and ‘sex shop’ for women, and their partners. Bliss for Women operated until Jan 2010, but then closed (after the GFC). However, the online business, bliss4women.com, continues to offer the same services. She has done a lot of public speaking on the subject of women’s sexuality. She’s taught at the Royal Women’s Hospital at both their ‘Menopause” and ‘Living With Cancer’ courses. She also works with Jean Hailes for Women’s Health. 6 years ago she started writing her popular weekly column – ‘About Last Night’ in the Sunday Age. She answer questions about sex and relationships. Her focus has always been on empowering women and couples to enjoy their sex lives, regardless of their age, background, orientation, faith, race or cultural background. She tries to approach everyone’s situation in a non-judgemental way, combining compassion and humour with respect and honesty.

Pornographer, sexy-feminist-rant blogger and an obsessive documenter, in words, art, porn and self portraiture (more often than not, nude) Hyperballad otherwise known as Jane, has operated in circles of totally amazing, switched-on women, both personally and professionally for a great many years now. She is also a woman herself. Over 4 years working at Feck, the past several of which devoted to the Beautiful Agony project, she has shot hundreds and hundreds of regular everyday people having an orgasm, from the shoulders up and in turn interviewed them about their sexual and masturbatory experiences. This space sparked a personal interest and engagement in sex positivity, feminism, shameless self pleasure and purposeful self love.

Kitten Club have kindly offered their premises to us. Fabulous food, full menu and cocktails, we are thrilled and honoured to have access to this wonderful new space. Sadly, this venue is not wheelchair accessible.  We are still open to suggestions for a new home, so please send us your ideas for places that

  • serve food and liquor
  • have a space for us
  • have stages, mics, projectors etc.
  • are wheelchair accessible
  • and in the CBD

NOVEMBER GATHERING

As you may have been following, we are revamping PSM’s format starting with our November gathering. November brings you 2 special

PRESENTERS;

Jessi Lewis

Melbourne performance artist Jessi Lewis joins us for a presentation like no other.

Exploring what it means to be only 22 and HIV positive, in a world where the death of face to face flirtation is imminent after the rise of Grindr, & what this new technology means for his generation while weaving this in through his own personal story of performance, gay beats, paying rent and moving to Melbourne at age 18.

Having performed Australia wide, Jessi is thrilled to bring us excerpts from his dance pieces, and engage in a Q & A with our audience at PSM.

Melbourne Rope Dojo

Our feedback has told us that you have all been VERY keen to know more about rope play and we have found you one of Australia’s best rope
instructors; Melbourne Rope Dojo!

The head instructor at the Melbourne Rope Dojo is Scott, one of the most experienced practitioners of Shibari outside of Japan. Scott started studying Shibari in 2004, which lead him to visit Japan starting in 2009 to continue his studies. He has been to Japan three times now to study under his Sensei, Osada Steve, and one of Osada Steve’s teachers, Yukimura Haruki-Sensei.

Whilst experienced in all aspects of Shibari, Scott has a particular love of newaza, or the intimate and connected tying typically performed on the floor. For Scott, the connection that can be achieved through rope is unique and forms the heart of Shibari. There is therefore an emphasis at the Dojo of learning how to obtain this connection.

Scott will be providing a demonstration of his work, along with a full suspension demonstration and a history of Shibari (Japanese
Rope Work).

An exploration of Tantra, Spiritual Sex and Expanded Erotic Consciousness

Our May presenter, Uma, joins us from Brisbane. She has spent most of her working life in the pleasure industry, earning her living as a Sacred Intimate while exploring different approaches to sensuality and sexuality. There are many names for these sacred teachers and erotic explorers- Tantrika, Dakini, Sacred Prostitute, Sacred Intimate. All of these titles are relevant to her work and she wears them with pride.

Uma has been trained in Tantra, Shamanism and Taoism and is a Certified Sexological  Bodyworker . She has found her path in life teaching people of all genders and sexual orientations the art and mysteries of sacred sexuality, and is thrilled to bring her knowledge and passion to speak in Melbourne for the very first time.

Along with her partner, she started studying the Tantric arts 8 years ago as a way to bring their relationship  closer together . It ended up being much more profound experience than either of them could have imagined, which continues to lead them today through an ever-changing exploration of a mystical world of sensuality, heart connection and the Divine.

Uma’s presentation will  explore and explain the history of Tantra as a spiritual philosophy in ancient India and how it is as relevant, important and meaningful  today as it was in days gone by.  Drawing on influences from other spiritual disciplines including Taoism from China and Shamanism from the Americas, Uma will give an overview of how these ancient secrets can be applied to modern-day sexuality and enhance contemporary sexual relationships between all orientations and genders.
Uma’s presentation at Pleasure Salon Melbourne will cover topics including:

*What is sacred sexuality and Tantra?

*What is conscious sexuality?

*Why practice sacred /conscious sex?

*The role of a Sacred Prostitute historically and today

*The kind of people who practice Tantra and Why

* Tantra / Spiritual sex as a complement  to alternative sexual practices ( including solo sex and BDSM)

*How to bring consciousness and the Sacred into your own solo -sex life, and with others.

*Creating a pan-sexual , sacred sexual  community that includes practices from breath work to tantric massage to conscious BDSM  and sex magic.
